Saddam Hussain was projected as hero by Indian media while American channels shown him as the one who deserves the punishment. It turned so evident that Indians felt sorry for Saddam's execution as the Indians in America felt that he deserves it. The only reason for this difference is the indoctrination of media.
"While Indian media is calculative in its approach in projecting Saddam Hussain as hero American channels didn't spare him at all. Indian media is concerned for communal harmony as it is secular in approach", opined an NRI.
That sounds logical and obvious. Some of the Indians are saying that if Saddam is hanged even Bush deserves the same.
"Saddam killed thousands of innocent people in Iraq. But Bush killed lakhs of Iraqis by waging war. Shouldn't he deserve a hanging?" questioned a professor.
In fact, cruelty depends on the eye of beholder. Killing in the name of dictatorship is different from that of killing in war, say some.
Coming to law and order after the news of Saddam's execution broke down, there were many concerns.
"We doubted if there would be any mishap or violence followed by Saddam's execution. Even the New Year day added tension to our groups as well. But everything went on well and smooth with the cooperation from people", said a Sub Inspector of Police.
To sum up, either good or bad or not welcomed, the end of 2006 has shown how media can influence the thoughts of people.
