Snippet: Producer says Nag Ravi case is publicity stunt

Producer Dega Deva Kumar Reddy has clarified to the court that the bilingual film Manasu Palike Mouna Ragam in Telugu and Yen Indha Mounam in Tamil starring actress Sneha is not based anybody’s personal life. This comes after the Chennai high court issued an interim stay order on the film, based on a complaint from Nag Ravi, a businessman. Ravi claimed that the movie was based on his and Sneha’s personal life. Reacting to Ravi’s statements, the producer claimed the businessman had raked up the issue in order to attract publicity.

According to Dega Deva Kumar Reddy, this film in based on J.K’s (Jiddu Krishnamoorthy) thought — where the self is, there is no love, where there is love there is no self. He says the film depicts what true love means, and does not portray any selfish lover as claimed by Ravi.

The producer also believes that the film should run on its own merit and not on any controversial publicity. “I want to make clear that we have not released any controversial publicity material related to the film and if any such thing has appeared in the press, we are not responsible. Anyone can manipulate website content. What Mr Nag Ravi claims is not true. I have sent a clarification to the court to vacate the stay order,” said the producer.

But Chiranjeevi implied that he belongs to Shirdi Sai Baba’s party, the embodiment of Hindu-Muslim unity and serving the people.

The photo frame of Sai Baba was hanged on the wall beside Chief Minister’s chair (CM is the sympathizer of Stalin in the film). If Gandhi’s frame was hanged, people mistake it as ‘Congress’. If ‘Bharatamata’ is shown, people may also draw conclusions saying ‘BJP’. If nothing is shown, that raises no interest. Hence Saibaba is shown.

People also felt that it would have been fine if Mother Theresa’s picture was shown. That would have spoken about Chiranjeevi’s indelible ideology.

Mani Sharma scores again, as 'Stalin' rocks

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (IANS) Close on the heels of "Pokiri", ace composer Mani Sharma has come out with another musical hit in "Stalin".

The top five Telugu albums are:

1. "Stalin" - The album has already registered record sales. "Siggutho chi chi" and "Thobare thoba" are particularly easy on the ears.

2. "Boss" - Kalyan Mallik, brother of composer Keeravani, joins hands with remix guru Harry Anand to churn out peppy tunes for "Boss". Kalyan impresses with "Yedo tamashaga", while Harry makes his mark again with "Nachindi chesey".

3. "Nuvvu Nenu Prema" - Despite A.R. Rahman's signature, the album has failed to make it to the top of the list. Though the tunes are not instantly catchy, they are likely to grow on the listeners. "Jil jillumanna prema" and "Maza maza" stand out.

4. "Premalekha Raasa" - The album claims a place in the list for its sheer quality. Debutant composer Ram Kaushi shows promise in "O Cheli Cheli" and "Rama Rama".

5. "Pokiri" - The album stays on the list, with none turning up to take its place.

Boxoffice: 'Andala Ramudu' tops fortnight's Telugu films

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (IANS) Comedian-turned-hero Sunil proves his mettle with "Andala Ramudu", a comic caper that is a runaway hit even in B and C centres.

The top five Telugu films are:

1. "Andala Ramudu" - Actor Sunil's perfect timing and elegant dances make a winner out of the film woven around a realistic plot.

2. "Bommarillu" - Siddharth and Genelia make a strong comeback with this feel-good entertainer. Debutant director Bhaskar has justified the trust producer Dil Raju placed in him.

3. "Sivapuram" - Lakshmi Ganapati Films have tasted big successes in the past by dubbing Hollywood flicks. "Sivapuram", their dubbed remake of Santosh Sivan's Malayalam flick "Anantabhadram", too has received a good initial response.

4. "Shiva 2006" - Director Ram Gopal Varma's name spells magic as his new film opened well. But the remake of his debut blockbuster "Shiva" disappoints because it lacks the soul of the original made 16 years ago.

Spotlight: Sushmita’s painting fetches Rs 25 lakh!

The actor put her personal work under the hammer to raise funds for Imran Khan’s cancer hospital.

Sushmita Sen had recently gone to Dubai to raise funds for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital which Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan has set up in the memory of his mother. Recollects Sush, “It was a wonderful experience. Imran Khan has built this hospital after he lost his mother to cancer. Cancer treatment is expensive and this hospital treats 70 per cent of the patients for free. That’s why I said yes to it.”

“I went to Dubai, did a three hour telecom for two days, did an auction dinner — in which for the first time — I shared my painting.” The painting went under the hammer for a good Rs 25 lakhs. Says Sushmita, “God bless that man because the money went for a good cause. We raised about Rs 8 crore in two days,” she adds.

Sushmita is now looking forward to going to Lahore to inaugurate the other Shaukat Khanum hospital. Impressed by Sush’s gesture, Imran has said he would be happy to be part of any fundraising programme in India. Sush has something more to say. “I want to thank my friend Parmeshwar Godrej who not only set up the whole thing but literally took care of me like a baby during the entire trip.”
