Sneha Talk: 'Tollywood like to experiment with my talent'

Having bagged the coveted Nandi Award from the Andhra Pradesh government recently for her performance in Radha Gopalam, Sneha is in an upbeat mood. "It was a double dhamaka for me. Last year, the Tamil Nadu government honoured me with the Kalaimamani award and now it is the Nandi award," said the elated actress.

Tollywood is better
There is a good time in the career of every artiste. It happens in a phased manner. This year Tamil was not that good for me in terms of roles except Pudhupettai. In the Tamil industry they have a mind-block that Sneha can do only homely roles. I have never said that I will not do glamorous roles. It is a commercial world, and as an artiste I am open to it within my comfort level. But if I say this, they will immediately conclude that Sneha does not have films and so has to resort to exposing. It is like that in Tollywood. They accept me the way I am, and offer me a variety of roles, bubbly, naughty, serious and even comedy which I love to do. They like to experiment with my talent rather than typecast me.

About gossip
I am an emotional person. Two years back, I used to get really upset hearing things about myself. But experience has taught me that it is not worth reacting to rumours, unless it crosses the limit. My parents, fans and those who know me well will not believe such rumours. I have become mentally strong, and I can handle any situation. I am a far more relaxed person now.

Future films
I am spacing my films now. I am doing Thangar Bachan’s film Pallikoodam in Tamil, and in Telugu P. Vasu’s Maharadhi with Balayya is ready for release. I’m also doing a film titled Madhu Masam with Sumanth.

Screen Talk: Abhishek flattered by gay icon title

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who has recently been voted Mumbai's gay icon, is discernibly embarrassed by this appellation but says that "any kind of recognition is a blessing".

"I don't know how to react to this. Any kind of recognition is a blessing. I don't believe in discriminating against any people. As long as any community loves me for doing what I do on screen, what more can I ask for? Of course, I'm flattered and I feel hugely complimented. It's not every day that one gets singled out by a very important and sensitive community. Of course I enjoy the thought of being a gay icon, though let me tell you I don't think I deserve it," Abhishek said.

He also topped a list of 50 Sexiest Asian Men in a survey conducted by Eastern Eye, an Asian newspaper published in Britain, in September.

When told that he's been chosen because of his clean-cut family image, Abhishek said, "It's not as though I put on any image for effect. That's the way I am. Family is the most important thing in my life. I don't have to make an effort to be a family man. I've been brought up to believe in certain values."

First sexy, now gay icon?

"I don't take these appellations seriously. My main job is to be an actor. And all these wonderful appellations come from that job. If I wasn't an actor, I'd be neither considered sexy - whatever that means - nor a gay icon.

"I concentrate on my job as an actor. The rest I treat as bonuses given to me for doing my job seriously. My responsibility is towards my audience and entertaining them. 'Sexy' and 'gay icon' are terms of affection that are here today will be gone tomorrow. I value them as long as they're mine."

Abhishek is mature enough to see that conducting himself decorously is not a responsibility; it comes with the territory of being a Bachchan.

"And why just a Bachchan? Every actor must be conscious of his public image. I'm very particular about my behaviour, and would've been so even if I wasn't a Bachchan."

Do you like being called sexy? "I don't know what it means."

Maybe it means people want to have sex with him? Abhishek laughed in embarrassment: "I don't think so. I really don't know what being sexy is."

Muni is the film which is being directed by Lawrence . This will be the third Telugu film for him. This movie is being made in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously. First it was scheduled to release for Sankranthi. But afterwards it was destined to release after Sankranthi.

What could be the reason? The answer is so simple and that is because of sentiment. Everybody knows that film industry sails on sentiments.

Might be Lawerence is keen on the sentiment as his last movie 'Style' that was released for 2006 Sankranthi and couldn't work well at the Box office. Hence the Tamil version is releasing for Sankranthi while Telugu version releases for summer.

In fact, the collections for Telugu version will depend on the talk and result of Tamil version.

Film Buzz: 'Operation Duryodhana' Inspired From 'Theesri Aankh'

Posani Krishna Murali announced his film 'Operation Duryodhana' and now the sources say that it is the film carved with inspiration from Hindi film 'Theesri Aankh' in which Suny Deol portrayed the lead role.

Srikanth is hitting the screen as lead role in this film. It was also said that the hero in the film has no connection with the characterization of the mythological character mentioned in title.

Posani has been not so active in film writing and directing for a long time. He penned powerful dialogues for the films like 'Pellichesukundaam', 'Shivayya' etc long back. He apprenticed at Paruchuri Brothers and proved to be a good film script writer. Last year he directed the film 'Sravana Masam' and that toppled at box office miserably.

After pushing media moghul Ramoji Rao and his group of companies into the corner, the Congress leaders are digging out the police records to find out whether there were any police cases against Eenadu group or Ramoji Film City.

As part of the strategy, a police case was filed against Etv channel for cheating a participant in one of its programmes by awarding cheap quality diamonds. The complaint was lodged not with the police station, but directly in the criminal court, which directed the police to register the case. The surprising part is that the information was leaked to the newspaper offices by the complainant himself.

The complaint may be correct or wrong, but the purpose of the Congress is solved, as it has shown the Eenadu group in a bad light. The Congress leaders are now planning to bring out more and more such cases, to project that Ramoji Rao is a cheat and blackmailer. So, the fight is on and turning serious!

The character of a guy that wishes to commit suicide after putting his entire father's money in loss ventures touches the hearts of audiences. Shivaji is considered to be the right one for the role. Well, it has the tempo of the character played by Rohit in 'Shankardada MBBS'.

Another big gossip that pumps interest is that a very popular young hero is playing the role of Abhishek Bachchan in this film and his name is intended to keep as top secret till the release of the film. Earlier it was thought that Pawan Kalyan is going to play the role. But now, considering various ins and outs, the names of other young heroes are also coming into discussion. Who will he be? It appears that big time has come for comedy films now. After the success of the films like 'Yevadigola Vadidhey' and 'Kithakithalu', Telugu film makers are showing interest to make full length comedy films. In earlier days, Rajendra Prasad's era spilled many laughs in Tollywood. He acted in many films in the combination of Jandhyala bringing many hits.

The Jandhyala epoch may hit again in the industry if the lined up comedy films turn to be hits. Today the two new comedy films those are hitting the screen are 'Bhagya Lakshmi Bumper Draw; and 'Goda Meedha Pilli' (GoPi). Apart from this, even the film 'Seema Sastry' is under production with Allari Naresh in lead role.

Although there were separate comedy heroes in 80s, later on the trend changed as big heroes started doing comedy on screen. Now, it appears that the heroes like Allari Naresh are bringing in the concept of full length comedy heroes again.

Padmashri SP Balasubrahmanyam supports the dubbing artistes and protests the idea of Tollywood producers who are planning to bring a ban on dubbing films.

Balasubrahmanyam says, "It is childish to think that any damn straight film would win the hearts of audiences by banning dubbing films. People cannot watch rubbish films even though they are asked to watch for free. Art has no language barrier. It can be lauded anywhere. I'm in Chennai now but I speak on the behalf of all Indian film artistes. Even though film industry shifted to Hyderabad, Tollywood could not develop local talent. Almost every film maker is doing RR in Chennai. Who can stop that? Above all, producers need to think about the future of dubbing artistes who are living on their art".

Balasubrahmanyam also added saying, "Producers need to think how to bring out best straight films. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is making films now without any understanding about the film making. That should be checked first. Film Council can think on those lines first".
