Ram Charan Teja Interview: ‘My dad is my hero’

Ram Charan Tej Konidela isn’t fazed by being Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s son, he tells one of the leading english news paper in the run-up to his debut

Being the son of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi is just one of the responsibilities he must shoulder. Now Charan has another huge task ahead. “I’ll be debuting this January and there’s bound to be a lot of expectation. But I know I’m capable of carving a niche for myself,” says Charan.

He says he doesn’t take the Chiranjeevi tag for granted and has been preparing for his debut for two years now. “Grooming is very important and I’ve been making the best use of my time so far,” says the 22-yearold, whose preparations included an acting course with Kishore Amit in Mumbai, and dancing and fitness training at home in Hyderabad. “Nowadays you’ll either find me in the gym or sitting for script discussions with dad and and my director,” says Charan.

Chiranjeevi, meanwhile, is playing the devoted dad to perfection. “He’s decided not to make any films till I debut — he wants to concentrate on my career for now,” says the proud son.

And no, being a superstar’s son doesn’t make things easier, says this youngster. “Dad is very disciplined and keeps advising me. One thing he’s always told us is not to get carried away by all the glamour. ‘Work towards being accepted in society as a normal guy, that’s when you’ve made it,’ is his mantra,” says Charan.

So did he always want to become an actor, or was it just the done thing considering his family background? “It’s an influence that later turned into a passion. Ever since I turned 15, I’ve wanted to become a hero,” he says.

And now that Cherry (as he’s called by his dad) is definitely on his way there, he likes to draw inspiration from the numerous movies he watches every day. “I watch all kind of movies in all languages. There’s a lot to learn in there and with each movie learn and unlearn,” says Charan. His list of favourite actors though is short. “My dad’s my hero and other than that there aren’t too many I’m crazy about. But I like Brad Pitt’s style,” he says. It’s also Charan’s dream to be like his dad, “I really wish I can appeal to half as many people as he does,” he adds.

Right now, he’s confident he’ll make a big splash with his debut. “If you can fly down Jessica Alba, I’d like to debut with her!” says Charan.

Tabu has become a singer suddenly a few hours back. She sang an old folk song in Hyderabadi Hindi. She sang ' Maine kithne baar bola naa ji ujala kapda pehno nakko, kaala kapda pehno nakko..'

She also came out with her feelings on Hyderabad and her childhood days. She said that the above song was enacted by Shabana Azmi in an old Hindi film. Tabu said that she had seen the shooting of that song that took place at Bhongir when she was a kid.

Tabu also said that she is happy for making a house for herself in the most beautiful place, Hyderabad. But she said nothing official about Nagarjuna and her friendship with him. She felt happy for acting in Telugu films and wants to settled won only in Hyderabad permanently.

Gopichand started his career as hero with the film 'Tholi Valapu' but that turned a flop. Then he turned a villain and shown the best of his performance with the films 'Yagnam', 'Andhrudu' and 'Ranam'. While all the films turned successful and brought immense mass image to Gopichand, the recent film 'Raraju' has shown him in a sympathetic way.

Most popular men in Telugu film industry renewed their relations with Jayaprada, evergreen angel of Telugu Screen during her stay in Hyderabad. She needed to spend good number of days to take part in the shooting of 'Maharadhi'. Her old friends who include Raghavendra Rao, a director and I.Arjunarajulu, a producer, called on her on sets and invited her to dinner. Apparao, the producer of the film had tough time to monitor her appointments. Jayaprada is believed to have learnt many things in films and politics. She didn't oblige many invitations. She would stay away from the company of visitors to answer back the frequent calls from Amar Singh of Samajvadi Party, Apparao recalls. Jayaprada, however, did not disappoint most of her old friends despite her busy schedules now.

Film Talk: 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' Has No Buyers!

The film ‘Satyam Sivam Sundaram’ has completed its shooting and RR long back but yet to release. Buyers are not coming forward to bag it with several doubts. The biggest doubt is that Sudhakar Reddy, the father of Nitin who is a big distributor is abstaining from releasing the film. This is giving wrong signals that the father himself is getting afraid as the film is not promising.

Above all, Meera Chopra is the heroine in this film who is being called a big iron leg in Tamil and Telugu industries. She acted in the Tamil film ‘Jambavan’ with Prashanth with the name Nila and that toppled miserably at box office. Eyes of film lovers and critics are focused more on Dhoom-2 ever since the announcement that Aishwarya is appearing in bikini has hit the tinsel town.

'Sainikudu' team is planning to bag big sum by rising with the success of 'Pokiri. The expectations are also built very big on this film. Mahesh Babu and team is planning to tour four major centers in USA for special shows and planning to put ticket price high. The price isn't disclosed yet. Indeed, a big sum was proposed initially, but finally that landed at a little discount.

Film Talk: Three Heroes and One Beautifully Hot Heroine

'Nuvve' is the film that is hitting the screen with three heroes and one heroine. Lakshmi Reddy Idamakanti and Gopichand (not hero Gopichand) have produced the film in the direction of Gopichand himself. Samragni is the heroine who plays with the hearts of three heroes. The film is made on the banner of Sai Charitha Films and is hitting the screen on 3 rd November.

It's a love story that sounds different with novel narration as per the director.

Samragni feels that she would get a good break with this film. Indeed, she hasn't shown herself in any sort of obscenity but depicted sensuously hot in traditional saris and designer blouses.

We have to wait how far the film opens the doors of big films for Samragni.

Screen Talk: Another model on the block

Krishna Reddy, who made the blockbuster Sindhoora Puvvu almost 10 years back, is now back with a film titled Poramboku. He has chosen Mumbai-based model Ekta Khosla as the heroine of his film, which stars young hero Navdeep.

From childhood, Ekta wanted to be an actress. She participated in the 2004 Miss India beauty contest and bagged the Miss Beautiful Hair title. After that, she appeared in many commercials. And now, she is making her debut with Poramboku in Telugu.

“Facing the camera is not new for me. Modelling has been my profession and acting is my passion. I did modelling for many advertisements,” she said.

“In this film, I enact a soft role. I liked the script very much. I don't think it’s easy to get a good character in Bollywood. So I would like to make my mark in Tollywood first,” she said.

She feels that down south, the people are very professional and work like a family. “You never feel homesick and everybody is very cooperative here,” she remarked.

Just like many other debutants in Tollywood, Ekta can’t speak the language as her mother is a Punjabi, and her father a sailor.

“No, I don’t know Telugu, but I can understand it. I have seen the recent hit films Pokiri and Bommarillu. I would like to learn the language quickly, which is why I've brought CDs and a book,” she said.

She had a word of praise for Navdeep, her co-star who is himself looking for a good break. She said, “Navdeep is talented. He have been very cooperative with me just like a friend.”

Ekta knows that although there is a demand for good actresses in Telugu cinema, there is still a lot of competition. She feels that if one is talented, one will definitely carve a niche for oneself.

Film News: Ramanaidu’s 'Madhumasam' in brisk progress

Veteran producer D Ramanaidu is making a film titled Madhumasam, with Sumanth, Sneha and Parvati Melton as the lead actors. The shooting is going on at a brisk manner around Hyderabad.

“I have made many romantic films in my career. The subject of this film is also romantic and family -oriented. We started the shooting with a bound script. Sumanth is being featured for the first time on our banner. I hope this film also will do good for me,” said producer D Ramanaidu.

He informed that the first schedule was already over and that the second schedule, which started on October 16, would wind up on November 4. With this, the film's talkie part will be completed.

Chandra Siddharth is the director of this film. Actress Seema is also enacting a special role in this film. The other cast includes Chalapathi Rao, Giribabu, Dharmavarapu, Ravibabu, MS Narayana and Kavita. Music is by Manisharma.

Impression: Rescuing Directors For Prabhas and Pawan Kalyan
